About the event

"Today Art Initiative", within the framework of the "Pariahs: Performing Europe's Historical Memory" project, is starting co-creation workshops and master classes in Ayntab village.
On October 20, at 16:00, a lace-making workshop will be held in Ayntab village led by Vania Msrieh. The aim of the workshop is to teach the participants certain skills of Armenian lacemaking and to co-create a common work with joint creative efforts.
Armenian lace has gone through many trials with the Armenian nation, preserved its simplicity and delicacy and has reached our days. Due to the accessibility of the material, the relatively simple forms of the tools, along with it, the wide means of artistic expression, it has been one of the popular occupations among the people. In delicate embroidered laces, ancient motifs of space, flora and fauna, geometric motifs, pockets have been preserved.
Vania Msrieh Karadjian was born in Aleppo, Syria. Her ancestors migrated from the Cilician Ayntab. Vania's love to needlework and lacemaking began from the childhood. Mastering the secrets of Armenian embroidery (Marash, Swaz, Aintap, Urfa, Kilis, Van lace, etc.) through self-work and difficulty, Vania today has her own brand, Vanart Handmades, which, in addition to manual embroidery, applies Armenian ornaments with a computerized machine. With the motto "Needle is my weapon to survive, to live, to continue", Vania transfers her skills to everyone without limitations or omissions.

We invite all the interested to participate in the workshop. Participation is free, materials are provided by the organisation. The workshop will take place on the first floor of Ayntab school No. 1. Address: Ararat marz, village Aintap 11 street 45/1 building.
